The replaces the Medicines Act 1981 and the Dietary Supplements Regulations 1985 to create a new regulatory regime for therapeutic products, such as medicines, medical devices, natural health products, and active pharmaceutical ingredients. First reading on Dec 14 with Te Paati Māori opposed and sent to the health committee. Reported back on June 13 with a very large number of changes and National arguing it should not proceed because of restrictions on imports and overreach, among other things. Ministers have indicated further changes may be made in the committee stage. Second reading completed on June 29 with National 31, Act and Kerekere opposed. Remaining stages completed under Urgency on July 18 with National, Act and Kerekere opposed.
